Background: My goal is to produce premium quality hay. I am in the process of developing native grass meadows that do not require spraying; thus saving time and money and allowing me to pass the saving to you. In addition, the use of herbicides removes valuable native forbs and legumes from the meadow that help grass production. I follow Oklahoma State University guidelines on native grass management; cut hay at a height of 4-5 inches before mid-July (when weather permits) and only cut ONCE per year. This optimizes the quality and quantity for the following year.
