The Department of Literature, Journalism and Modern Languages at Point Loma Nazarene University, San Diego announces a tenure-track position for a full-time professor of Spanish. The position encompasses teaching a broad range of courses in language, literature, and/or culture. Responsibilities begin mid-August 2018. Academic rank and compensation level will be based on degrees and experience. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. Responsibilities: Teach upper- and lower-division undergraduate courses in Spanish. Participate in University and departmental activities and governance Serve on faculty committees and perform other normal faculty duties Qualifications: Education: Ph. D. in Spanish preferred. Highly qualified ABD candidates will be considered. . Areas of Expertise: Ability to teach a broad range of Latin American or Spanish literature/culture classes. Strengths in developing and teaching courses to work with new dual degree programs. Course work/teaching in Spanish linguistics and willingness to lead study abroad courses/program preferred. . Experience: Undergraduate teaching experience preferred. Demonstrates evidence of a commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching. Philosophical: Demonstrates thorough commitment to Christian liberal arts education. Desire to work in and carry out commitment to an evangelical institution in the Wesleyan tradition. Demonstrates support of the religious and educational goals of the university and its sponsoring denomination, the Church of the Nazarene. Personal: Demonstrates evidence of Christian commitment and active church involvement. The successful candidate will also be expected to advise undergraduate students and participate actively in scholarship and service.
