This role focuses on wastewater treatment. The Utilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for effective development and execution of maintenance and improvement efforts throughout the site, with a focus area of facilities and utility systems. The individual must have the technical knowledge and experience to determine technical solutions to problems, communication skills to “sell†the need for these improvements and acquire funding, and the project management skills to effectively implement them.  Key Responsibilities:Responsible for operating waste treatment plant. Operates machinery that converts wastewater in drains and sewers into a form that\\\'s safe to release into the environment.Occasionally, operators must work during emergencies. For example, weather conditions may cause large amounts of storm water or wastewater to flow into sewers, exceeding a plant’s capacity. Emergencies may also be caused by malfunctions within a plant, such as chemical leaks or oxygen deficienciesAdd chemicals, such as Urea, phosphoric acid, Ferric chloride, Polymers and micro-nutrients that are used in the process of treating waste water.Inspect equipment on a regular basisMonitor operating conditions, meters, and gaugesCollect and analyze influent, process and effluent samplesRecord meter and gauge readings and operational dataOperate equipment to purify and clarify water or to process or dispose of unwanted solids.Clean and maintain equipment, tanks, filter beds, and other work areasFollow U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulationsEnsure safety standards are metWork with Site Engineers, Central Engineers, Engineering Technicians, Site Support Groups, (SAR, WWTP) and contract designers to identify and co-ordinate detailed design, installation, and start-up of new or modified facilities and systems.Co-ordinate efforts to properly prioritize and seek funding for needed improvements.Manage day-to-day project management administrative requirements using various engineering tools such as AutoCAD, E-Buy, P-Track, Engineering Ways of Working, and the PSER process.Be an integral team player and leader in continuous improvement projects where appropriate, providing the necessary technical and strategic leadership for project success. This will include a consultant role in support of the Central Engineering group projects when needed.Oversee equipment and system checkout, troubleshooting, and technical support as required to insure timely and efficient project startups.Experience identifying training needs, developing training programs, and facilitating the training of associates in support of project installations and operations Key Requirements:Good mechanical aptitude, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.Demonstrated proficiency in the facilities construction and maintenance fields, with respect to familiarity with basic construction techniques and materials, including specification of such things as concrete structures, paving systems, building components and finishes, mechanical systems, etc.Able to retrieve and interpret drawings and specifications.Able to lead and co-ordinate design efforts through the various steps from concept to detailed construction plans and specifications, including contact w/ client groups and other stakeholders.Good interpersonal, communication, teamwork, facilitation, and meeting skills.Demonstrated leadership skills in prior roles or assignments.Achieving expected results without close supervision and delivering projects to scope, time, and budget.Development of multi-skills through varied work/projects in a manufacturing environment.  Minimum Qualifications:High School Diploma or equivalentMust Possess a fundamental understanding of wastewater treatmentTechnical Degree/Trade Certification or 5 years of experience required in a wastewater treatment role    Ability to work during the day and be on-call evenings; May need to work hours outside of the standard workweek (including holidays and weekends) when required by specific projectsProficiency in Microsoft office, especially Excel & PowerPoint  Physically able to lift and transport loads up 60 lbs unassisted, across all types of terrain such as typically found on construction sites Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and scaffolds Mentally and physically able to operate effectively at heights well above floor level, and inside small, confined spacesDemonstrated organizational and time management skillsInternally driven, self-starter with track record of achievement/resultsSuccessful Completion of a drug and background screen Preferred Qualifications:Advanced DegreeNJ Industrial Wastewater Treatment N2 License Company paid relocation is not available for this role. Mars is an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
