JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE


This position works in conjunction with other engineering disciplines. Performs a wide variety of planning, maintenance, design engineering, project management and construction, and operations activities related to routine, non:routine, and emergency restoration duties. Project areas may include grid/system design, operations and maintenance, planning, asset management, reliability, computer applications, safety, and root cause failure analysis.




JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES


Performs a wide variety of detailed engineering analysis in transmission:related areas such as planning, maintenance, design, project management and construction, and operations. Plans and conducts independent engineering work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures and criteria. Devises new approaches to solving problems.




Uses engineering/technical principles, best practices, and knowledge of internal and external business issues to solve problems, develop cost:effective, technically sound solutions, and improve products or services. Directs and mentors junior staff and oversees the engineering work on multiple projects.




This group performs engineering for the physical design of electrical power substations. Some activities include:


:Develop technical descriptions and cost estimates detailing project scope of work for project execution plans.


:Perform engineering analysis/calculations to support substation designs.


:Create and modify substation drawings in for construction prints and documentations.


:Develop substation construction packages detailing foundation and electrical designs. This includes preparing drawings such as steel and electrical plans, elevations, and details for substations as well as grounding, foundation layout, and conduit/raceway plans.


:Identify, specify and requisition all required substation project materials (i.e. large power transformers, breakers, switches, surge arresters, bus/wire sizes, control houses, etc.)


:Perform quality reviews of construction packages prior to issuance to construction.


:Provide technical assistance during the construction of projects and maintenance of substations




Applies knowledge of engineering principles in evaluating alternatives, making decisions, and interpreting/employing applicable electrical codes, procedures, standards, processes, and policies.




Supports activities to comply with applicable industry standards (i.e., NERC, SERC) and other utility regulations, as required.




Works with other disciplines within the Transmission organization and other company business units to achieve stated goals.




Assist with storm/emergency restoration efforts as necessary.




MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS


Minimum education required of the position


Bachelors Degree in Engineering Discipline (typically Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, and Industrial) from a four:year accredited institut
