## Position OverviewThe School of Journalism and Mass Communications seeks an experienced and accomplished professional to teach courses that guide students in how to best develop relevant strategic communication plans for audiences. The successful candidate will know how to start, build, and sustain a strategic campaign. She or he will bring energy and knowledge of the best current professional practices to the classroom.The successful candidate also should demonstrate abilities related to consumer and business insights; project and client development and management; social media and other digital strategies, including programmatic advertising; and group organization. We seek a candidate who can develop and maintain connections with industry professionals in local and national markets. The professor of the practice also will demonstrate knowledge of and experience in working with diverse audiences. An ideal candidate will have university-level teaching experience or demonstrated ability as a mentor, connector, coach, or adviser in a professional setting; the ability to develop and teach online courses; and experience working with media metrics and data analysis.The chosen candidate will bring distinction to the School in a professional capacity and will receive an appointment as a professor of the practice. Rank will be assigned at the time of hire based upon the recommendation of the Dean and approval of the Vice Provost for Faculty Development. The appointment is for three years. Develop appropriate course materials.20%: Advise the dean, track chairs, and others on industry best practices. Serve as a liaison to industry professionals and trade organizations. Serve as adviser to strategic communication student groups. Other duties as assigned.## Required QualificationsEvaluation of these requirements will be made through (1) letter of application describing experience and accomplishments; (2) record of productivity in teaching, research and service as noted in CV; (3) research statement and supplemental materials (e.g., publications); (4) teaching statement and supplemental materials (teaching portfolio, sample syllabi, teaching evaluations); (5) information provided by three professional references.1. PhD, JD, MD or other post-graduate doctoral degree in journalism, mass communication, or a closely related field or ABD (with a firm completion date no later than six months after appointment), and two years of professional experience related to the subject or scholarly research or creative work suitable to the subject taught OR2. Those with a relevant Master s degree may be certified to teach if they have at least five years service in the media, creative or representative profession with publications or work products demonstrating:a. Executive or management experience, and/orb. Research, analysis and creative experience, and/orc. Supervisory experience, and/ord. A documented record of successful teaching at the post-secondary level OR3. Those without a relevant Master s degree may be certified to teach a specific course in the Journalism School if they have at least seven years service in the media, creative or representative profession, with expertise specific to the course taught, documented with publications or work products demonstrating:a. Executive or management experience, and/orb. Research, analysis and creative experience, and/orc. Supervisory experience, and/ord. A documented record of successful teaching at the post-secondary level.4. Exceptional oral and written communication skills, digital media skills, and presentation skills, as evidenced by application materials and interview.5. Documented experience in strategic planning.6. Experience working with teams, handling multiple projects and meeting deadlines, as evidenced by application materials.7.
