Built in 1950 and raced in the "Ark-La-Tex" area in the early to mid 50's, this Class B runabout, built and raced by an individual, J. W. Joiner, was a consistent runner up to the "factory boys", finishing second many times in Shreveport, Natchitoches, Alexandria and Monroe, LA.
The boat is 100% mahogany, 11.5' long and weighs about 160 lbs. The driver positioned himself on his knees, with one hand on the wheel and the other on the throttle. The motors used in those days were almost certain to be Mercury KG-7, Super 10 Hurricanes as this one does. They produced about 18 HP at the prop out of the box and that easily doubled in the right hands. In racing tune they pushed these boats about 50 MPH. My experience has been that these were often the only two points of contact if there was even a little chop on the water, your hands!
The motor with this boat is not modified and was never raced, yet has recorded 43 MPH as is. These numbers may not sound like much but, if you ever experienced it you would likely think it's the fastest 43 MPH you'd ever done in anything!
The all red mahogany and bright brass screws are beautiful. This would make outstanding decor in an antique boat club or marine oriented restaurant on the water.
If you think you see a tiller throttle on the motor you are right. It is a transplant from a Cushman Eagle.
The boat and motor live in Lafayette, LA. It is time to let go. It has been in storage for 50 years. All offers will be considered.
