Unique & Original sandpainting art by Navajo artist and silversmith Richard Begay (1943-2013). The medium is fine Sand of a primitive Native American theme. The Navajo word for Sandpainting words is---"iikaah" (ee-EE-kah).
Incredibly fine and articulate detail for this medium. This piece is signed by Begay who has art on permanent display at the Smithsonian American Indian Museum. Date of this work is unknown. This is also professionally framed.

"Son of a medicine man, this accomplished and respected silversmith said: "My jewelry is my past and future. It's my memories as a child. The colorful sunrise, sunsets; the ceremonies, the people, the land."

A master of mosaic and channel inlay, overlay and stamp work, he was among the first to make storyteller bracelets, showing tiny, detailed scenes of traditional Navajo life. His silver work is beautifully detailed, and enlivened by the fine, colorful inlays. One of his concho belts is displayed in the permanent collection of the National Museum of the American Indian at the Smithsonian Institution, in Washington D.C. He was also a composer and recording artist of Navajo music, and nominated for a Grammy.

He lived out on the Navajo land, with livestock and horses, and brings his heritage to life in his work."I enjoy creating beautiful things," he says. "
